James Atin-Godden is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, and songwriter. Since graduating York University with a BFA in composition and improvisation, James has been heavily active on the Toronto pop music scene. James plays keyboards, bass, guitar, violin, drums, and vocals. He has played keyboards and bass in various bands, including The Pick Brother Band, Ruby Cikada, Prince Perry and The Gladstones, and others. For several years James led the 7-13 piece art-rock band Copycat, singing and playing keyboards, while writing all the material, as well as managing the band. |
He currently co-runs art-pop project Aniqa Dear, who’s debut album he produced and played almost every instrument on. James has scored for dance, animation, film, musicals, song cycles, and multi-media performances. He has produced several singles and albums for artists like Aniqa Dear, Ruby Cikada, Chladny, Scott Johnson, and is currently working on many more. In his productions, James engineers rich and unique textures that are steeped in vibe. He blends electronic atmosphere with acoustic sensibilities and sounds, creating something that feels both alien and familiar. As an academically educated composer interested primarily in the realm of pop music, James knows how to craft and develop a great pop-hook while keeping the music exciting, challenging, and unique.
