A professional songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a BA in Music from York University, at 26, Bryn is making a unique mark in Canadian music. After graduating with Honours in 2012, Bryn capitalized on his prodigious harmonica skills by founding The Bryn Scott-Grimes Harmonica School, which is now responsible for teaching hundreds of people from all walks of life how to play the world’s most popular instrument.
In 2016, Bryn was featured as the lead educator in the documentary Me & My Harmonica, which relays the compelling story of a man’s dream to bring harmony, happiness and peace through his music. Since the the film’s completion, the producers and protagonist have continued to work with Bryn to follow through on the man’s dream and are now in the midst of getting the harmonica into Ontario’s music curriculum. They have secured sponsorship from Long & McQuade and are in talks with Ontario’s chief minister of education.
Since his youth, Bryn has released 4 solo albums, including his latest, Room on Ossington, where he wrote, produced, and played all of the instruments (guitar, bass, drums, harmonica, vocals). As an independent artist, Bryn has released his material under no label, as he sees freedom and possibility in the new music industry, where artists no longer need to rely on record labels.
Each of Bryn’s albums have a unique concept and represent a different chapter in Bryn’s musical and personal life. Bryn’s first album was a collection of self-produced recordings from age 15 to 21, and vary from folky-blues inspired tunes to hip hop and rock-inspired tracks with catchy melodies groovy beats. Coyote, Bryn’s second album, mirrors Bob Dylan’s first album - 13 tracks played with single-take guitar and vocals. For this album, Bryn made strictly 50 copies each hand printed with his finger prints, mimicking the prints of Coyote tracks. The Harp Hornbook, Bryn’s 3rd album is a collection of purely harmonica-related recordings In 2017, Bryn will be releasing his 5th solo album independently, which is currently in production with a variety of producers at Silverthorn Studios.
Bryn is also part of the award-winning duo Taylor & Bryn, a band with a distinctive blend of innovation and musicianship that evokes jazz standards, 70's pop, folk, rock, soul, hip hop, show tunes and beyond - a bright, bold sound that’s equal parts distinct, refreshing, and accessible. Taylor & Bryn's live shows are high-energy infusions of melody, wit, soaring harmonies, sophisticated guitar parts, and beat-boxing harmonica.
Having penned hundreds of songs since he first began playing guitar at the age of 13, Bryn is an avid songwriter and composer with a refreshing, unique sensibility. Some hear The Beach Boys, others The Beatles, but if you listen closely, there’s reference to music from many continents in the melodies and harmonies of Bryn’s playful and colourful songwriting. Bryn has been studying the songwriting of broadway for the past few years and is preparing to write a musical and begin scoring music for film and tv.
When Bryn isn’t working on music he is bodybuilding and selling the original fine art of genius actor/artist Aron Tager. Bryn also co-operates a music-themed airbnb in Toronto called The Music Suite - a 4.5 star getaway in west Toronto equipped with instruments, lessons from the hosts, and a full professional recording studio just steps away.
